The Follow-Up

What to Send When the Spouse Was Not on the Call

By Room Two ·

Only one spouse joins the call. The other spouse hears about it later, at the kitchen table, and what they hear is often just the monthly price. No reasons. No trade off. No next step. That is where many deals stall, not because the household does not need coverage, but because the decision was never shared with the whole household.

Send the recap, not a retelling

Do not ask the spouse who was on the call to explain the plan from memory. Memory drops the reasons and keeps the price. Send the approved recap page instead. Both spouses can read the same page, with the plan, the monthly cost, and the next step in writing.

The recap works when it is the agent's own words, checked by the agent before it goes out. Every line and every number should be approved by you. If a line is not right, fix it before you send it. The household should never get a page you would not stand behind.

What belongs on the page

Keep it to what the household needs to decide. What they said matters to them. What the plan does about each worry. The monthly cost, in plain writing. One clear next step. Nothing more. A long page does not help a spouse who was not on the call. A clear page does.

The page should also let the household signal interest from the page itself. That way you know when to follow up, and you follow up on the problem they named on the call, not on the sale.

What not to send

Do not send a bare price by text. Do not send a long illustration with no explanation. Do not send a second call link with no context. Each of those puts the work back on the spouse who was on the call, and that is the retelling problem all over again.

A short note with the page helps. Try this: here is the page from our call, in writing, so you can both read it on your own time. It has the plan, the monthly cost, and the next step. Let me know what questions come up.

If the household goes quiet after the quote, read why clients go quiet after the quote. And if you want a clean way to capture the call before you write the recap, use the 60 second debrief.
